A new In-Country Director has joined the Devoted to Children family! In the middle of our April Seva trip (with the largest group of volunteers we’ve ever had!), we introduced our new director, Isha, to the D2C Family Home and community projects. Isha is a college graduate who has kickstarted several of her own community-based projects which provide empowering initiatives for young people in at-risk communities.
Isha has spent years traveling between Texas and Haiti, and in 2014 she worked in La Vallee, Haiti building Bio Sand filters and teaching students environmental awareness. Additionally, before arriving at D2C, Isha traveled to several other developing countries to engage in volunteer work. She is Haitian-American, a very important requirement for the In-Country Director role. D2C wants to ensure that the person who is on the ground can engage in and integrate both cultures. We always want our directors to be able to teach us about Haitian culture while also holding up our values on child protection and development.
Isha is a firm believer that “opportunity should exist without the boundaries of borders.” She is a writer, teacher, filmmaker, community leader, and overall someone who is dedicated to loving our kids while also stretching that dedication to our community-based initiatives. In addition to this, she is leading D2C’s social media presence. She will be the person curating our posts on our blog, Facebook and Instagram.
As Isha begins her journey with D2C, we also said goodbye to our previous director, Diane, following three years of committed service. With a mixture of love and sadness, we wished her well as she began on her next journey. The kids have welcomed Isha into their family with grace and openness. They appreciate her warmth and natural inclination for working with kids. We are so happy to introduce you to Isha and we hope that you all will appreciate the work she does with us as it unfolds.
